Faerie Folklore
The name “Faerie” encompasses all types of enchanted folk. It comes from the Latin “Fatare” and the old french “Feer” meaning “to enchant”. “Fairy”and “Fay”are also used to refer to the enchanted realm and it’s many races, though the Victorians and modern popular culture have redefined fairy as a little girl with wings.

Using a true name implies a threat. So Faeries were also referred to in euphemistic terms i.e.:
The Gentry, Themselves, They, Grey Neighbors, Merry Dancers,
Bendith Y Mamau (bendith er mamigh), The Mother’s Blessing, Wee folk,
Li’l fellas, Them that’s in, The Small People, White ladies, Hillmans
