Are kayaks easy to tip over?

Kayaks aren't any more tippy than canoes or any other small boats. The difference is in the center of gravity in both boats. A canoe has to be wider because the paddler is up higher in the boat. Kayaks can be narrower (which increases performance) because one sits very low in the boat. In a kayak you also have the advantage of your paddle. Just like a tightrope walker you have a pole held across your body that increases your balance. All of our kayaks were chosen with the beginner in mind. They are wider and provide excellent stability.

If I can't swim, can I still go on a trip?

Sure! Swimming skills is not a requirement. Everyone is required to wear a PFD (Personal Flotation Device).

What If I do fall in?

Our guides will go over what to do prior to you getting in the water. If you do tip over, one of the guides will be close by to help you back in the kayak.

How long is the trip?

Each trip has a trip duration rating. For example the Full Moon tour is generally 1 1/2 - 2 hours long on the water. See paddle trips page for more information.

When do I arrive before a trip?

The trip coordinator will provide you with a meeting time along with a launch time when you sign up. This time is used for registering, sizing you to a PFD and kayak, along with basic instruction. So don't be late.

What do I bring with me?

See the trip checklist page. We provide dry bags for small items. Soft coolers work best.
